THE ART OF MEDITATION PART 3

The Chambers 20th Century Dictionary defines “meditation” as the act of meditating deep thought: serious, continuous especially on a religious or spiritual theme. It further defines “meditate” as a verb in the intransitive form which means to consider deeply, reflect upon, to revolve in the mind; to intend.

Take another look at the definition of the word MEDITATION and you will soon find out that you have really been practicing it. So, why this article?

Man is a spirit, has a soul and lives in a body (1 Thessalonians 5: 23). The Almighty creator in His wisdom created all men this way. With our spirits, we interact with the realm of the spirit. This realm is superior to the natural or physical realm.

There is a real realm of the spirit. It is in that realm that God and angels exists. Science CANNOT locate or observe it with any scientific instrument. Our only access to this realm is our spirit. Intellectualism will never discover this realm through its research and philosophies. For anyone to consider that there is no spiritual realm because he cannot contact it with his five physical senses is as foolish as the fish thinking that all the world is water.

There is a spiritual world; after the fall of Lucifer, this world was divided into two major parts – the realm of light where God reigns and the realm of darkness where Satan reigns.

When our progenitor, Adam ate the forbidden fruit, he sold himself and his entire progeny to the kingdom of darkness.

“Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death in by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned” (Romans 5: 12) KJV.

“This, then, is what has happened. Sin made its entry into the world through one man, and through sin, death. The entail of sin and death passed on to the whole human race, and no one could break it for no one was himself free from sin.” (Romans 5: 12) J. B. Phillips.

Sin, death and darkness have thus ruled and governed our triune being. With our minds, we have been meditating but on that which is evil or darkness. A man says to you, “you are cursed, you will never amount to anything in life.” We will more readily meditate those words until we are eaten up by fear rather than contemplate words of hope and goodwill spoken to us by our parents, teachers and pastors. Then when things don’t work, we say “oh that man cursed me, I need deliverance.” Yes, you need deliverance from meditating evil to meditating the word of God.

Notice how easily we develop simple statements of fear or sin into detailed pictures in our minds but have tremendous difficulty doing the same with words of faith and righteousness.

Our minds are created to ponder words, to consider them thoughtfully, but the kingdom of darkness trained us to use it negatively for sin.

Do this exercise: Read your favourite verse of the Holy Bible (one verse) ten times at one sitting. While reading, keep your eyes on the verse of scripture. After reading, close your eyes and say the same scripture for another ten times or more and as you do, let yourself listen to what your is saying.
